If you suffer from severe arthritis or a serious shoulder injury, you might need a total shoulder replacement. If other treatment methods have not helped, this procedure can relieve your pain and restore mobility.
If your doctor recommends shoulder replacement, your orthopedic surgeon will remove the damaged parts of your shoulder joint and replace it with artificial pieces that mirror your natural joint structure.
Shoulder Replacement Options
At Cartersville Medical Center, we offer several options for shoulder replacement surgery depending on your unique condition. Our experienced orthopedic surgeons will help decide which approach is right for you:
- Total Shoulder Replacement – The entire shoulder joint is replaced with a smooth metal ball attached to a stem, and a plastic socket.
- Stemmed Hemiarthroplasty – Only the ball of your humerus bone is replaced.
- Resurfacing Hemiarthroplasty – An artificial cap will be placed over the humeral ball so the joint surface doesn’t continue to wear away from arthritis.
- Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement – A different approach to total shoulder replacement where all parts are replaced, but you will use different muscles to move your shoulder if you rotator cuff is completely torn.
Before choosing joint surgery, we offer comprehensive education at Cartersville Medical Center. We’ll walk with you through the entire process from your first consultation to rehab and recovery.
