Screening for Middle Ear Infections

The purpose of screening is early diagnosis and treatment. Screening tests are usually given to people without current symptoms, but who may be at high risk for certain diseases or conditions.

At this time there are no screening guidelines for ear infection. Nonetheless, some children are followed closely to observe for and treat chronic otitis. Among these are children with either cleft palate, Down syndrome, or a variety of immune disorders that may predispose them to ear problems.
